The county town of Surrey, Guildford, is situated twenty seven miles to the south west of London.
The town is located in a valley amid the North Downs on the banks of the River Wey and is also served by a number of railway lines and canals.
Originally a Saxon settlement and deriving its name from the distinctive golden sands beside the ford across the river, Guildford has a long and rich history, which is still evident in the number of ancient buildings dotted around the town.
Modern-day Guildford is a bustling market town with many popular shopping areas and a weekly farmers' market, as well as a number of high quality hotels and restaurants. In recent years the town has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK on more than one occasion.
